Anca Elena Gurzau, MD, PhD

Anca Elena Gurzau, medical doctor (MD), Environmental Health Specialist, has a PhD in Environmental Health and is a Professor of Environmental Health and Environmental Security and member in the International Society of Environmental Epidemiology (ISEE). She is currently an external consulatnt of Environmental Health Center in Cluj-Napoca and also Professor at Babes-Bolyai University, Cluj-Napoca. Her main research interest is environmental health and toxicology. Some of the major research projects, funded by national, European and U.S. institutions were focusing on health risk assessment of heavy metals (such as lead), pesticides, arsenic, and carcinogens from drinking water as trihalomethanes. In the last years much of her research has been focused on biomonitoring in human exposure to arsenic, cadmium, mercury, cotinine and more recently, phthalates. She has been involved in the environmental health training of young researchers and students from “Babes-Bolyai” University Cluj-Napoca, Yale University, State University of New York – University at Albany and Eurasian National University, Astana, Kazakhstan (during summer internship programs) for many years.
